Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 18, 2026

The New Amsterdam Times uses this website to publish articles, manage contributor accounts, and send its newsletter. This policy explains the personal data that the website collects and how it uses that data.

Data we collect

When you create an account, we collect your email address, display name, account identifier, and assigned account role. If you use Google to sign in, Google gives us your basic profile information, including your name and email address. We do not request access to your Google contacts, files, or other Google services.

When you submit an article, we collect the article text, its details, its image, and your account information. When you join the newsletter, we collect your email address and subscription status. The website can also receive standard technical data, such as your IP address, browser type, and request logs.

How we use data

We use account data to create your account, confirm your identity, assign permissions, and protect the article workflow. We use submitted content to review and publish articles. We use newsletter data to confirm subscriptions and send requested messages.

Google user data

The website uses Google profile data only to create and authenticate your New Amsterdam Times account. The website does not use Google user data for advertising. It does not sell Google user data or give that data to data brokers.

Service providers

The website uses Google for optional sign-in and Supabase for account and database services. It uses Vercel for hosting, GitHub for website content, and Resend for email delivery. These providers process data only as needed to supply their services.

Storage and security

The website stores account and article data in its service systems. Your browser stores an account session so that you can remain signed in. We use access controls and secure connections to protect data, but no internet service can guarantee complete security.

Data retention and deletion

We keep personal data while your account or subscription remains active, or as needed to operate the publication and meet legal duties. You can ask us to delete your account or personal data. Some records can remain when the law requires them or when they form part of a published article.

Your choices

You can use an email address and password instead of Google sign-in. You can unsubscribe from newsletter messages with the link in each message. You can also ask to access, correct, or delete your personal data.
